How to Care for a Fine Art Print
The limited editions we sell are printed on acid-free (actually PH neutral) paper using only fade resistant inks. With proper care, they will last for generations. Prints can yellow, however, from coming in contact with the acids in non-archival materials. For this reason, they should not be stored for more than a few months in cardboard folders. Preferably, they should be properly framed as soon as possible using only acid free frames mattes and backing. Mattes that are not up to standard can be spotted by their yellowed cores where they have been cut. When handling prints always make sure that your hands are clean and dry. Use both hands to support the print. Paper bends very easily. The print's own weight can cause it to bend over, causing half-moon dents. Try not to nick the edges. Even the best quality works of art will fade when exposed to direct sunlight so never hang a treasured print too near to a window. Remember....any condition short of perfect, even outside of the image area, can affect the collector value of a print. |
