KITTYHAWK ... Curtiss P-40This video shows the restoration of an ex-RCAF Kittyhawk, registration AK-752. The Kittyhawk was used by the RCAF home defence squadrons on both the east and west coasts. This particular aircraft even served in Alaska with the RCAF. It was discovered buried on a farm in Alberta 1982 and after extensive restoration work in Australia was returned to the air in 1989.There is excellent archival footage of the Kittyhawk (jpg image) in North Africa, the Dutch East Indies, and with the Flying Tigers in Burma. In addition to scenes of the extensive restoration work done on the P-40, the video also shows numerous take-offs, landings and excellent air to air sequences. The cockpit interior is shown in detail as the pilot runs through the pre-flight check list sequence. Air to air scenes include the Kittyhawk flying in formation with a P-51 and Spitfire. There is also an excellent sequence on the only original Messerschmitt 109 still flying in the world. Colour and B&W, 45 minutes, # V013...$29.95 Canadian |
